The Biggest Building in Rwanda -Kigali Green Complex [KGC]

In the next three years, KCT will no longer lead other buildings in terms of height, because in the city of Kigali, another one will be raised, which will be the tallest in Rwanda.

It is a building in the construction project of the Ministry of Security in Rwanda, RSSB. This building called Kigali Green Complex [KGC] will be located on the site of the former French Cultural Center near the main roundabout in Kigali City, on the road to Payage.

KGC will have 29 floors, which is unique because it will be built in an environmentally friendly way according to the vision of the country.

The CEO of RSSB, Regis Rugemanshuro, when he was in an interview with the media on September 14, 2023 returned to how this sector performed in the 2022/2023 budget year, where it earned 285 billion Frw, he said that KGC will be unusual building.

He said, "It will be a tall building, beautiful in terms of its structure, modern and environmentally friendly."

So far, the study of this building has been done and now the bidding of the companies bidding to build it has been given.

He said, “The final steps are left but in the month of December, the construction should have started. We expect that the project will last less than three years, we expect between 2.5 and three years, and it will be built in a modern way; a building that every Rwandan will see and enjoy.''

The cost of the building has not yet been announced as it is still undergoing renovations.

He said that such a building shows the vision of Rwanda to be a host of various services including economy, technology, medicine, sports and others.

He continued, “There are those who do all this elsewhere in the world who have the infrastructure that we do not have as a country. We want these people who provide services elsewhere, to see Rwanda as a country where they can work well. It is in that direction that we are, now we are sitting in the Kigali Convention Center but in the past years who would have told you that he wanted to build this building, there is no denying the changes that this building has brought to the country. This new building is also intended to attract investment.''

After the completion of KGC it will be the first tallest building in Rwanda [29 floors], it will be followed by KCT (20), Grand Pension Plaza [18] and Makuza Peace Plaza which is 15 times higher.

In Africa, the list of tallest buildings is led by Carlton Centers in Johannesburg, South Africa, which consists of 56 floors and is 227 meters tall.

The Burj Khalifa [Burj Dubai] of the United Arab Emirates has been the world's tallest building for 13 years, with a height of 828 meters and 163 floors.

Currently, the total assets of RSSB, which will build KGC, amount to 2065 billion Frw, which accounts for 15% of the country's gross domestic product.

Of the investments this sector makes, it is related to construction activities with 13%. RSSB is the owner of Nyarutarama Plaza, Grand Pension Plaza and other residential and commercial areas in different parts of Kigali City.

RSSB has major projects planned including Vision City Phase 2, Batsinda Housing Project and Kigali Golf Resort and Villas.
